One of the greatest investments I made in myself was working. All the time. All over my target industry: fashion. 

Knowing all of the stakeholders and understanding their goals is the only way to gain an advantage in any industry. I worked in retail, wholesale, styling, PR and owned my own jewelry company and that history informs every email, conversion and business decision that I make.

I have talked about this before on the blog, but I started a fashion technology company, rewardStyle, in 2011 with my now-husband, Baxter Box. This year we launched our first consumer product,, a service that lives on Instagram allows you to get all of the product information about an Instagram just by liking it!

Before, I would comment on other blogger’s or brand’s photos, asking where to get that dress or pair of shoes. Even though I have personal relationships with so many of them, I would never get a reply- so I would take a screen shot, sit in my bed on Sunday and google “purple organza trench” or “black ankle tie heel.” #fail.

When you register at and ‘like’ an Instagram that has a “” link in the caption, you will receive a ready-to-shop email to your inbox with all of the relevant information. Nearly all of my Instgrams are enabled so you can either visit my profile page,, or just ‘like’ my photos to get the information.

Social media content now rules the fashion world and is shaping this shift in the industry. Major magazines like VOGUE and ELLE and the most popular bloggers like Sincerely Jules, Atlantic-Pacific, Song of Style and Tuula Vintage all use to add value to their Instagram content and better serve their followers.

This fall we are welcoming the first class of Campus Influencers.

Campus Influencers are uniquely positioned on their campus as an innovator in this shift, with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in and connections to the fashion industry, to be featured in international fashion publications, and enjoy an invitation to join celebrity Instagrammers as an approved publisher. They will be invited to visit the Dallas headquarters and dine with me and my co-founder, Baxter.
The program will span across 10 weeks this fall, September 8 through November 4, and is open to college students across the nation.

I met Andrew online. Not on Tinder, Match or MySpace, but on airbnb.  I was going to work in our London office for a month and I didn’t want to spend my evenings in a hotel room- so I found a spare room.

Andrew’s East London flat was on the top floor of the building, was a new build and had a floor to ceiling view of the Gherkin building. (If you follow me on Instagram @venzedits, you may remember these photos.) We got to know each other after work over the tops of our computer screens. Both owning our own companies, we connected over business, art, boys and fashion.

When I went to stay with Andrew again earlier this year, he told me that he was inspired to paint the “antithesis of Whistler’s Mother” and asked if I would sit for him.

A few months later, he revealed my portrait, Hommage, at his NYC solo exhibition, Variations on a Theme.

My dad says that successful people realize, look for and create their own opportunities. I think the same can be said of worldly people- those who experience life outside of their community or culture. Worldly people realize, look for and create their own unique experiences. Booking a month in a home with strangers on airbnb was outside of what I knew, but I have been greatly rewarded for taking that risk.
